Primary Schools Plastic Challenge - Terms and Conditions

  • Schools
    1. The Primary Schools Plastic Challenge competition is open to all schools that have been directly invited by Wastebuster to participate, with children of 5-11 years in attendance. Schools are competing in the challenge to have the most pupils learning about plastic waste and recycling via the Challenge quiz and parents/ guardians pledging to recycle plastics.
    2. Schools will need to have a Wastebuster account to register/ participate in the Challenge.
    3. Children will need to be given login details (by their school) for their own Wastebuster account in order to:
    • Login and complete a quiz on plastics.
    • Invite their family (represented by a parent/guardian) to watch a video on how to recycle plastics more easily at home and pledge to recycle more plastics.
    4. The number of quizzes completed by pupils and pledges made by parents/ guardians can be seen by teachers logging into an active Primary Schools Plastic Challenge account. Each school’s total will be displayed on the Challenge leader board and viewable by all schools participating in the Challenge.
    5. The opening date for entries is 9am 3rd June 2019 and closing date for entries is at midnight on Sunday 7th July 2019.
    6. Wastebuster reserves the right to change or cancel this competition at any stage and without prior notice, if it deems necessary, or if circumstances arise outside of its control.

  • The Winners
    1. Winning schools will be both the school with the highest % of pupils completing the quiz and the school with the highest number of pledges.
    2.In the event of a tie (such as more than one school getting 100% of their pupils completing the quiz or getting pledges), a random selection ballot will select one school as the winner of a Captain Busta mascot, but all schools in the draw will be jointly awarded as the Challenge winners.All winning schools will receive an e-certificate of achievement via email and an opportunity to take part in the celebration assembly webinar where their pupils will be congratulated by the Wastebuster characters, Captain Busta and Pong.
    3. All participating schools that have over 20% of pupils complete the quiz will be ifarded an e-certificate of achievement.
    4. The winning school/s will be notified (using the details provided with the entry) within one week of the closing date of the competition (Sunday 7th July 2019). The Challenge prizes including the Captain Busta mascot and e-certificates will be released the w/c 8th July 2019. The celebration webinar will be delivered during the w/c 1st July 2019. Any schools not able to attend the Challenge celebration webinar will be sent a video featuring Captain Busta and friends congratulating the school.
    5. No alternative prize will be available.
    6. Unclaimed prizes: if for any reason a winning school cannot be contacted for one month after the closing date or is unable to collect or take part in the prize, a different winner will be selected.
    7. The promoters reserve the right to provide substitute prizes.

  • Promotions
    1. The promoters reserve the right to publish details of the name of the schools registered with the Plastic Challenge and the winners. This could include on the Wastebuster website/s, and in relation to the promoters’ Plastic Challenge campaigns and similar campaigns.
  • Pledge Giveaway
    1. Those that pledge by submitting their email address to the pledge form will be entered in a random selection ballot to identify winners of prizes. The email address given during the pledging process must be submitted by a parent, guardian or a responsible adult.
    2. Prizes available include 1 Busta mascot toy and 5 sets of Wastebuster Top Trumps and 5 Green Science Kidz Labz packs.
    3. Throughout the competition, pledge prizes will be given at random to entrants.
    4. The promoters reserve the right to provide substitute prizes.
    5. Wastebuster reserves the right to change or cancel this competition/ challenge at any stage and without prior notice, if it deems necessary, or if circumstances arise outside of its control.

    • To help us understand more about how the Website is used and to improve the Website.
    • To conduct analysis and research to help us improve products and services and make sure that our customers get the service they want and need.
    • We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer our site, to analyse user trends, to track user movement, and to gather broad demographic information—all for the purpose of continually improving our website and delivering personalised, custom content. Wastebuster will not use your IP address as personal data, it will be used to give the location of you down to a county or city level only.
    • For audit and reporting purposes to help us manage our business effectively and efficiently.
    • If you agree, to contact you for direct marketing purposes and to carry out customer satisfaction surveys.

Wastebuster will not use your IP address as personal data, it will be used to give the location of you down to a county or city level only.

    Note: Wastebuster does not currently offer membership to individuals such as a parent/guardian of a child whose school or group is a member.

  • What are Wastebuster’s legal grounds for handling your personal information
    Data protection law sets out a number of conditions which organisations can rely on in order to lawfully handle personal information. The conditions we rely on are as follows:
  • Legitimate interests
    The law permits Wastebuster to handle your personal information where necessary under your own, and our legitimate interests provided that our interests do not outweigh your interests. Many of the purposes where we handle your personal information, described above, fall into this category as they are essential activities which enable us to deliver a quality environmental education programme efficiently and effectively for example, reviewing and improving the services we provide to you, your experience when you visit our website and to help ensure that we communicate with you about our resources and in ways that are most likely to be of interest to you and have broader societal benefits. We may, if necessary, also use your information to defend legal rights or to obtain legal advice and to manage any complaint that you might have. We ensure that your rights and interests are protected when we do this.
  • Contract
    If your state-funded school has been given Wastebuster membership by your local authority or district/borough and the law permits Wastebuster to handle your personal information where necessary to fulfil our contractual obligations.
  • Consent
    Wastebuster are permitted to use your personal data when you consent for us to do so (e.g. for direct marketing purposes) and to share your personal data with carefully selected partners to send you relevant information.
    Where we rely on consent as the lawful basis for processing your personal information, you can withdraw your consent at any time. The withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
  • Performance of a Contract
    Your Wastebuster membership may be for a specified amount of time. In these situations, Wastebuster will endeavour to advise you prior to your membership ending of the expiry date so that you can consider re-registering should you so desire.
  • If you choose to receive news and marketing from Wastebuster
    By consenting to news and marketing you agree that your personal details and the information you provide as part of any request, will be processed by Wastebuster as data controller, to provide personalised marketing and for market research purposes.

    • We use IP addresses to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer our site, to analyse user trends, to track user movement, and to gather broad demographic information—all for the purpose of continually improving our website and delivering personalised, custom content. Wastebuster will not use your IP address as personal data, it will be used to give the location of you down to a county or city level only.
  • If you would like to stop receiving marketing/ news from Wastebuster
    If you wish to withdraw your consent, you can do so at any time by unsubscribing from any email or emailing info@wastebuster.co.uk.
    Please note that the withdrawal of consent for Wastebuster marketing:
    • Shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
    • Will result in no communications being sent to your personal email address or referring to your name. We will still send emails to other email addresses not identifiable to yourself unless the consent for these is withdrawn.
  • Where Wastebuster will store your personal information
    Some of the third parties where personal information is stored are located outside the European Economic Area (‘EEA’) and therefore could be in a country which may not have data protection laws as stringent as those in the EU. Wastebuster will only transfer your personal information where appropriate safeguards are in place.
  • How long Wastebuster will keep your personal information
    Personal information will be kept for 3 years after the last contact.
  • Your rights and how to contact Wastebuster
    You have the right to access the personal information Wastebuster hold about you and, if it is inaccurate, to have it corrected. In certain circumstances, you also have the right to request that your personal information is erased (the “Right to be Forgotten”). You also have the right to request that Wastebuster stop using your personal information for direct marketing purposes.
    You should be aware that, some of the rights mentioned above only apply in certain defined circumstances and therefore even if you want to exercise them, Wastebuster may not be required to comply.

  • Right to withdraw your consent

    If you are not happy about how Wastebuster handle your personal information, you have the right to complain to the supervisory authority.
